Corporate Social Responsibility

Media24’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategic framework is aligned with the company strategy of remaining relevant and useful to consumers and clients and creating value for its shareholders. As a media leader in South Africa, we are committed to connecting our brands to people and we aim to be of service to the communities in which we operate. CSR is more than philanthropy to us; it is derived from our business objectives and our CSI projects are created and implemented with a view to driving commercial and brand value.

For the next three years (2015 to 2018) our projects will focus on education, enterprise development, health, skills development, arts and culture and brand-building.

PROJECTS 2015 – 2018

WeCan24 is a mobile-based digital school news network developed by Media24. We visit schools nationwide and provide training to aspiring young journalists with a keen interest in the media industry. With WeCan24 we give them the tools to set up their own digital school news platform.

Media24 Rachel’s Angels is our youth mentorship and empowerment programme that has been in operation in the Western Cape since 2007. The programme is run in partnership with the University of Stellenbosch and aims to improve grade 11 and 12 learners’ academic abilities and their life skills in order to prepare them for university.

Through our internal Volunteers24 programme, our staff members are given the opportunity to support numerous CSR initiatives and give something back to society and people in need.

Sponsorships supporting arts and culture

Media24 is a keen supporter of the arts and was a founding sponsor of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK), Aardklop and Vryfees. We also support various smaller festivals.

Enterprise development initiatives

Media24 has joined hands with the innovative Clothes to Cash Exchange (C2CX) project, as well as with Khayelitsha Cookie Company (KCCO) and the ForwardFund to support local small business and entrepreneurial development.

C2CX collects unwanted clothes to support micro entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs with disabilities. KCCO aims to produce the best cookies in South Africa and employs previously unemployed women from Khayelitsha, teaching them skills to secure permanent jobs. The ForwardFund is a registered independent fund that assists small businesses with seed capital. It aims to develop skills and encourage entrepreneurship, enterprise development and social-change initiatives.
