    Rachel Jafta, MEcon and PhD, is a professor in economics at Stellenbosch University. She joined Naspers as a director in 2003 and was appointed a director of Media24 in 2007. She serves as chair of Welkom Yizani Investments (RF) Limited. She is a member of the South African Economic Society, director of Econex, chair of the Cape Town Carnival Trust, co-founder and chair of Rachel's Angels Trust and a board member of the South African Institute of Race Relations. She is chair of the human resources and remuneration committee of Naspers. She was appointed chair of the Media24 board and a member of Media24's human resources and remuneration committee in April 2013. She is chair of Media24's nomination committee.

  • Esmaré Weideman

    Esmaré Weideman obtained the qualifications BCom and BJournalismHons, (both cum laude) at Stellenbosch University. She worked for many years as a journalist, news editor and copy writer. She worked as a political reporter, news editor and subeditor for several years before rejoining Media24 as associate editor of DRUM in 1995. After a stint as assistant editor of Fairlady she was appointed editor of YOU, then Huisgenoot a year later. In 2010 she became editor-in-chief of Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM, and in 2011 she was appointed chief executive of Media24. She is a director of Media24 and Paarl Media Group.

  • Ruda Landman

    Ruda Landman obtained the qualifications BAHons and HED at Stellenbosch University. She was subsequently appointed as a journalist at Die Burger and later at SARIE. She was a presenter of the M-Net programme Carte Blanche from 1988 to June 2007 and is a television freelancer. She was awarded an honorary doctorate by Stellenbosch University in 2011 for her work as a journalist. She chaired the board of trustees of Project Literacy and the board of directors of Helpmekaar Private School from 2003 to 2007. She is a director of Media24 and chairs the Media24 safety, health and environment committee.

  • Salie de Swardt

    Salie de Swardt holds the qualifications BAHons and BEcon from Stellenbosch University and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. During his career with Naspers, he served as financial reporter at Die Burger, and financial editor and editor of Beeld. He was also the founding editor of Finansies & Tegniek (now Finweek), chief executive of Media24 Magazines and managing director of Media24 from 2000 until his retirement in 2005. He is a director and member of the executive committee of Media24 and a director of Paarl Media Group, the Aardklop arts festival and Democratic Media Holdings in Windhoek. He was appointed chair of the Media24 audit and risk committees in April 2013.

  • Russel Botman

    Russel Botman holds the qualifications BA, MTh and DTh. He is a former president of the South African Council of Churches, and chair of the Klein-Karoo National Arts Festival. Currently, he is an executive committee member of Higher Education South Africa, a vice-president of the Association of African Universities, and a director of Media24. He is also a member of Media24's safety, health and environment committee. He serves as chair of the Cape Town World Design Capital 2014 board and president of the Academic Consortium for the 21st Century. Before joining Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2000, he was dean of religion and theology at the University of the Western Cape. He was appointed SU rector and vice-chancellor in 2007, and reappointed for a second term in 2012.

  • Debra Meyer

    Debra Meyer is a professor in biochemistry and heads this department at the University of Pretoria. She was a Fulbright scholar at UC Davis (University of California) where she obtained a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology. She regularly publishes in science journals and organises HIV/Aids education and community service projects. She has completed modules in media strategy and academic leadership at Harvard and Gibs (University of Pretoria's business school) and makes regular contributions to several newspapers and magazines. She is a published poet and has received several awards in her area of expertise. She serves as trustee or board member of several organisations including Dagbreektrust, Naspers (since 2009), Aardklop arts festival and the council of North-West University. She was appointed director of Media24 in April 2013.

  • Lourens Jonker

    Lourens Jonker obtained the qualification BScAgric with further studies at UC Davis (University of California). He has completed programmes for director development at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland and GIBS (UP). He is the owner of Weltevrede Wine Estate. He joined the board of KWV Co-operative in 1981 and became chairperson of KWV Group Limited in 1994. He led the successful transformation of KWV from a cooperative to a fully commercialised company. He resigned from the KWV board in December 2003.

  • Neil van Heerden

    Neil van Heerden, who holds a BA qualification, is a trustee of the University of the Western Cape, former director-general of foreign affairs, ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, ambassador to the European Union and former executive director of the South Africa Foundation (now South Africa Business Leadership). He is also a director of other companies.

    Hein Willemse holds an MA (cum laude), MBL and DLitt degrees. He is currently a literature professor at the University of Pretoria. He is a board member or trustee of various national and international technical associations or community organisations.

    Jo-Ann Held (née Strauss) obtained a BCom (Law) degree at Stellenbosch University. Jo-Ann is a media entrepreneur who, among others, presents and has produced her own prime time TV show. She also has several corporate enterprises and is a director of Partnership Investments, a company with interests in media, mining and property. She also serves on the Western Cape Board of Ubuntu Botho (part of Sanlam) and the board of M&C Saatchi Abel, one of SA’s leading advertising agencies. She was appointed as a director of Media24 in January 2014.

    Steve Pacak, a chartered accountant(SA), began his career with Naspers at M-Net in 1998 and held various executive positions in the MIH group. He is a director of MIH Holdings, MultiChoice South Africa Holdings and other companies in the wider Naspers group. He was appointed an executive director of Naspers in 1998.

  • Abduraghman (Manie) Mayman

    Abduraghman (Manie) Mayman has been appointed as chief financial officer of Media24 in January 2014. He is a chartered accountant and holds the qualifications Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCompt), Honours Bachelor of Accounting Science (BComptHons) and Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management from Unisa as well as a Certificate in Retail Marketing of Petroleum Products from the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Oxford. He also completed the University of Cape Town’s Programme for Management Development, as well as the JMW Manager of the Future Programme. He is a former financial director of BP Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd. In September 2007 he was appointed as chief financial officer of Media24. He left the company and returned in 2011 as chief financial officer for Media24 Newspapers. He has been appointed as a director of Media24 in January 2014.
