Esmaré and Ferial among three finalists for top award

Media24 CEO Esmaré Weideman and City Press editor in chief Ferial Haffajee have been selected as finalists in the 1st for Women Insurance Brokers' Women in The Media Awards 2012. The other finalist is Primedia Broadcasting CEO Terry Volkwyn.

The three finalists, who were chosen from a shortlist of 41 women in media, will vie for the Media Woman of the Decade Award to mark the 10th anniversary of the awards. Sandra Gordon, CEO of Wag the Dog Publishers which founded the event, says the three women epitomise what the award stands for.

"They have dedicated their lives to the media and its advancement and we find it apt that their contributions will be acknowledged at such an important occasion." The awards were launched a decade ago to celebrate the achievements of women in the media sector, many of whom were not acknowledged despite their significant contribution. "We hope younger women in media will be inspired to follow in the footsteps of these remarkable finalists," 1st for Women Insurance Brokers MD Robyn Farrell says. "Their tenacity and courage in such a challenging sector are commendable."
