Twenty five Eastern Cape schools recently received a financial boost of more than R4 million from the MultiChoice Fort Hare Inkwenkwezi Trust. These schools participated in a mentorship programme where students from the University of Fort Hare mentored Grade 11 and 12 learners. Media24's support included providing office space for the administrative team, overseeing the implementation of the programme, media coverage and several CSI projects in the Eastern Cape with the support of business units such as Ads24, DRUM, Daily Sun and Destiny.

Media24 celebrated Heritage Day with a host of exciting activities at various branches across the country. Apart from the language classes that kicked off this week, staff could also enjoy typically South African meals at some of our staff canteens and were encouraged to dress up in a traditional South African outfit. The Heritage Day celebrations were concluded on Friday afternoon at the Naspers Centre with live entertainment by the Bamabanani Marimba Band, Die Kaapse Affodille and Loukmaan Adams while everyone enjoyed a good old boerewors roll.

Kitted out in aprons and plastic gloves and armed with butter knives, Media24 staffers made sandwiches for 24 community organisations countrywide on Mandela Day on Monday. Well-known chef David Grier, Media24's sandwich maker, Thulani Lali, and Prof Jakes Gerwel, chairman of Media24 and the Nelson Mandela and Mandela Rhodes Foundations devoted 67 minutes of their day to making more than 10 000 sandwiches.

The Kraaifontein community was up and about early Saturday morning as young and old made their way to the third Rachel’s Angels Market day. The day started off with a 5km Fun Run which was opened by members of the local Santos Football Club. The Fun Run, themed Superheroes for our planet, was in support of the Earth Hour initiative and challenged all participants to come dressed as a superhero. Some of the interesting outfits included a suit made of newspaper and dresses from recycled plastic.

Some of Cape Town’s most loved personalities participated in Media24’s CANSA Shavathon campaign held on Thursday 3 March at the Naspers Centre in Cape Town and Media Park in Auckland Park.Liezel van der Westhuizen and Kia Johnson (both presenters on SABC3’s breakfast show Expresso and on Kfm 94.5) sprayed their hair in front of staffers, while singers Loukmaan Adams, Byron Clarke and Santos football players also participated to show their solidarity with cancer survivors in Cape Town. This year’s Shavathon coincides with CANSA’s 80th birthday.
