SA’s first vegan magazine launches today

30 January 2017

The first issue of Media24’s new magazine, THE VEGAN LIFE (Ethical Eating for Plant-nourished People), goes on sale today. With its focus on a vegan lifestyle, the 84-page glossy fills a unique gap in the market.

Veganism, a vegetarian diet that also excludes eggs, dairy and any other animal-derived products, is on the rise, with growing numbers of people becoming more conscious about what they eat. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) even dubbed 2016 #TheYearOfVegan.

“The huge shift towards veganism is really interesting,” THE VEGAN LIFE publisher Marianne Erasmus says. “It reflects a growing awareness of our impact on the world, because the basis of veganism is not only about what’s good for the individual, but what’s best for the planet. We support the decision to live ethically and the activism behind it and are proud to launch the first vegan magazine in South Africa.”

THE VEGAN LIFE tells you everything you need to know about veganism. It also addresses contentious issues, such as owning a pet, and is packed with advice from experts such as registered dietician Jessica Kotlowitz and plant nutritionist Dawn Macfarlane. The first issue of the magazine tells you how to start a 21-day vegan challenge plus there are 32 delicious vegan recipes, food lists of what to eat and a guide to the best restaurants in Cape Town, Joburg, Durban and Pretoria offering vegan food.

THE VEGAN LIFE costs R49 and is available at all major stores. To buy the digital version click here.
